Edu Hub Lisbon is planned as a campus environment in the city of Lisbon. Its 28,400 sqm development is anchored by a world-class international school for ages 3 to 18: United Lisbon International School. With a truly global vision, United Lisbon has over 50 nationalities represented. It is an official International Baccalaureate World School, and a flagship school in the Microsoft Showcase School’s network.
All occupiers at Edu Hub will enjoy a range of comprehensive onsite facilities: extensive indoor and outdoor sports areas; covered event spaces; a day-to-evening café; and a large underground car park with charging points for electric vehicles.
This first-of-its-kind campus community for Portugal will come to life within revitalized industrial buildings with new spaces for learning, working, and living. Edu Hub Lisbon partners with like-minded businesses that share the same objectives and are dedicated to positive growth, collaboration, and lifelong learning.
Edu Hub’s campus has a fascinating history, originally known as “FAPAE – Fábrica Portuguesa de Artigos Elétricos”, it was inaugurated by Philips on January 23rd, 1953.
Owned by “Philips Portuguesa S.A.R.L”, it was designed by well-known architect Porfírio Pardal Monteiro, and was mainly dedicated to the manufacture of TVs, radios and lighting..
Bringing these spaces back to life, to support the industries of the future economy, is our passion and ambition at Edu Hub Lisbon.
They first developed the Martinhal Resort in Sagres in the Algarve from scratch and have successfully expanded the Martinhal brand across three other properties in the best and most prestigious locations in Portugal – with the group’s latest project, Martinhal Residences opening at the end of this year, in Lisbon.
The exceptional new contemporary luxury apartments and penthouses which are already 90% sold off-plan are located in Lisbon’s most exciting and family-friendly neighbourhood; Park of Nations.
Roman and Chitra Stern are the entrepreneurs behind United Lisbon Education Hub. They are the founders and owners of the Elegant Group, which has a track record of 20 years of creating well-conceived properties across Portugal. Their brand of family hotels, and residences, Martinhal, has welcomed families to Portugal from all over the world, for more than 10 years.
Through Chitra’s work with a government-led task force for foreign direct investment, they recognised the need for a quality international school within central Lisbon—a niche they were determined to fill. Identifying an opportunity to breathe new life into a former educational facility still with its original art deco façade in Park of Nations, they transformed it into United Lisbon International School which opened its doors in September 2020.
Through extensive research selecting the right global industry partners, as well as having a large family of their own, they were able to apply their first-hand knowledge of the importance of education for international families relocating to a major capital city like Lisbon.
The school’s extensive state-of-the-art offering and facilities were completed and opened for operations in September 2020. It is the start of the transformative community that is Edu Hub Lisbon.
At the start of summer 2023, Martinhal Lisbon Oriente, encompassing Martinhal Residences opened, inaugurated by the Mayor of Lisbon. Located in the east of Lisbon, the Sterns were quick to recognise the enormous potential of the Park of Nations; amenity-rich; with an abundance of green and riverside space; family friendly; just minutes from the airport and within easy reach of the historic centre.
Testament to Elegant Group’s success with the Martinhal brand and recognised in the top three branded residences brand in Europe (Savills 2019); the residences were over 90% sold off-plan. Working with award-winning architect Capinha Lopes, and several Portuguese artists who the Sterns have enjoyed close association with; the building design inside and out brings an exciting new dimension to this art filled neighbourhood.
Excelling at not only placemaking but also Elegant Group’s ability to manage and deliver large commercial projects, in 2021, they completed a state or the art project for Belgian insurer AGEAS.
Situated in Lisbon’s riverside district of Park of Nations, AGEAS Tejo is the new landmark headquarters for Ageas Group, by Capinha Lopes. The 15-floor building, combines intuitive design, flexible workspaces transitioned with fluid social areas and outdoor areas with an extensive planting project in partnership with a local social enterprise, which seamlessly integrates with neighbouring Jardim do Cabeço das Rolas park. These layered spaces, green façade, wide floorplates, and outdoor areas including an expansive roof terrace are designed with workplace wellbeing at their core.
Integrating best-in-class sustainable and energy-efficient practices, earned the BREEAM “Excellent” rating.
