As the Marvila district continues to evolve, we take a closer look at 8 Marvila. Formally known as Armazéns Abel Pereira da Fonseca, it housed one of Lisbon’s foremost wine warehouses. Today, this iconic building is transformed into an emerging experience of culture, commerce, and art.
This month at Edu Hub Lisbon, we hosted a select MBA student cohort from Bayes Business School, currently in the top 5 business schools in the UK for an international field trip. Organised in conjunction with entrepreneurship specialists, Canopy Community, the group of brilliant minds were immersed in real world learning and business scenarios for start-ups.
Marta Monteiro Gil is a Vice President of Creative & Marketing for Jamestown Europe. Ms. Monteiro Gil leads marketing initiatives in Portugal and Spain. Prior to joining Jamestown, she worked in branding, creative, event organization, digital marketing, and shopping center management at Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield, both in Madrid and in Paris.
As Portugal continues to grow its enterprise and start-up scene and with a renewed focus on research and innovation, learn about how King’s Cross in London became a melting pot of art, science, education and commerce with architecture, new and old that responds to the varied and dynamic public realm.
At the end of November, we were honoured to host Nick Searl, Managing Partner from major developer Argent LLP / Related Argent to talk about the huge success story of London’s King’s Cross, one of Europe’s most exciting regeneration projects in recent times. The sold out event in conjunction with The American Club of Lisbon, welcomed guests across architecture, design, RE, investment, as well as those eager to learn about a project that succeeded in delivering a public-private partnership that attracted academic institutions, corporates, engaging public realm, all underpinned by stellar placemaking.
To kick off the new academic year, set up by International Study Programs, we welcomed 31 business students and 3 faculty members from LeBow College of Business, Drexel University. Led by Drexel Professor Dana D’Angelo business undergraduate students looked at the current business climate and leadership strategies.
Continuing our ongoing engagement with some of the world’s leading academic institutions – we hosted a team of MSc students from Bayes Business School from City University of London. The students took part in a start-ups programme with Canopy Community with one cohort using Edu Hub as a case study.
After the extraordinary exhibition by artist Bordalo II, Edu Hub Lisbon hosted another event dedicated arts and creativity, for the whole family. A fun and inspiring afternoon to let your imagination fly while exploring different artistic mediums – visual arts for children with Art Lab da Rita Rovisco, arts and crafts, knitting, crochet and macramé with Companhia das Agulhas, A Avó Veio Trabalhar and Vasco Águas, a lively dance session with Jazzy Dance Studios and a performance by the United Lisbon Music Academy to open the event.

Welcoming two higher study groups to Edu Hub Lisbon..
Firstly, MBA students from University of New Hampshire who with students from United School Lisbon engaged in focus sessions on the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
Set up by International Study Programs we hosted start-up advisory sessions with Villanova University MBA students.
Hosted a brand new immersive exhibition, #Evilution by Portuguese street artist Bordalo II, featuring works by upcoming artist Nature the Artist; delivering a powerful message on society’s overconsumption. Total visitor numbers over 2.5 months to United Lisbon Education Hub for the #Evilution exhibition topped close to 80,000.
Swiss Tech Night @Web Summit for the past two years we have hosted a night of ‘elevator pitches’ from burgeoning start-ups and scale-ups. As well as hearing great ideas, our space set the scene for a lively networking event with some of Lisbon’s best food truck concepts.
A group of 50+ students from Executive MBAs from Georgia Tech – Scheller College of Business were in Lisbon with International Study Programs and came to our school to participate in a business consulting exercise for start-ups from Portugal and the UK. With participation and valuable insights from Stewart Noakes of Canopy Community The Sustain Ability Project, Beam Education, Talkguest, DG Solutions.io, Sestini & Co and iVirtual Technologies
